Domaine Leflaive is one of the leading wine producers in Puligny-Montrachet, focusing almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay. Leflaive has currently 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of premier cru sites and no fewer than 5 hectares of grand cru vineyards. This release comes from Clavaillon, a premier cru vineyard in the centre of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. The 2013 vintage reveals to be a relatively ethereal expression, with an exciting combination of high notes and depth of fruit, plenty of acidity but sufficient body too.

Pale, bright yellow. Refined aromas of white peach, spices and minerals. Classier and higher in acidity than the Meursault, with apple and stone fruit flavors carrying well on the back end. This wine was being bottled on the day of my visit.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2015

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
