Under the leadership of Brice de la Morandière, Domaine Leflaive stands as a highly influential estate in Puligny-Montrachet. Renowned for its dedication to Chardonnay, the estate focuses predominantly on white wines, encompassing four Grand Cru and four Premier Cru expressions. This particular cuvée hails from Le Clavoillon, a Premier Cru vineyard situated at the heart of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. Expect notes of citrus zest and pears intertwined with hints of white flowers, bread dough, and wheat toast.

(bottled one week prior to my visit) Full medium yellow. Ripe yellow peach on the subdued nose. Fat and rich but quite dry, with a strong spice character currently dominating the wine's fruit. Powerful but a bit lacking in precision. Finishes with a suggestion of warmth. This will probably be best for relatively early drinking.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2008

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
