Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 2002 is a medium-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Premier Cru climat of Le Clavoillon in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Now led by Brice de la Morandière, Domaine Leflaive is one of the most influential estates in Puligny-Montrachet. The estate focuses almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay, including four Grand Cru and four Premier Cru expressions. This particular cuvée comes from Le Clavoillon, a Premier Cru vineyard in the centre of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation where Leflaive owns a 4.8-hectare plot. "A now fully mature nose is notably elegant with lovely white flower, citrus and peach aromas that blend into round, sweet, nicely plump and fresh middle weight flavours that display real verve and fine finishing complexity. This is beautifully balanced and I like the clean and dry finish. This is drinking perfectly though should continue to do so if well-stored." Burghound, 2011

Complex, precise aromas of apricot, mirabelle , honey and smoke. Silky, fat and full if quite dry; considerably richer than the young 2003, with sound framing acidity. Finishes very long, with a subtle whiplash of flavor. This has filled in quite nicely since I tasted it from barrel last spring.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2004

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
