Providence 2005 is a full-bodied blended red wine produced from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. Once located in the heart of Pomerol on the appellation`s famous clay-gravel plateau, the Moueix family-owned Providence was a Pomerol producer of some note before ceasing production in 2012 and being absorbed by Château La Fleur-Pétrus (also owned by the Moueix family). "A dark, almost primordial style of Pomerol, the 2005 Providence has notes of new saddle leather, licoricey, truffle, loamy soil, forest floor and earth, with plenty of rich blackcurrant and black cherry fruit behind all of these nuances. It is a big, masculine, full-bodied, intense Pomerol to cellar for another 4-5 years, and drink over the following two decades." Wine Advocate, 2015

Bright ruby-red. Aromas of currant, mocha, truffle and smoke. Fat and plump but with only moderate cut to the sweet flavors of red fruits, truffle and smoke. Offers plenty of sex appeal and a high-pH mouth feel but could use a bit more energy (I would never have picked this blind as a wine from the Moueix stable). Finishes with substantial dusty tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2008
