The 1995 Château Prieuré-Lichine is a classic Bordeaux blend, primarily comprising Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Margaux region. The wine presents a complex bouquet of aromas, featuring dark fruits, toasted oak and herbal notes. On the palate, it showcases a structured yet approachable profile, with a balance of acidity and tannins that suggest ample ageing potential. Château Prieuré-Lichine, classified as a Fourth Growth in 1855, boasts a vineyard of approximately 77.5 hectares, uniquely situated across multiple communes in the Médoc, offering a diverse range of terroirs.

An underwhelming effort for sure, this medium-bodied wine exhibits a moderately garnet color and a sweet nose of dusty red fruits intermixed with some balsam wood, Provencal herbs, and damp earth, perhaps even mushrooms. The wine is pleasing on the attack, but then becomes increasingly compressed and attenuated. Anticipated maturity. Now-2006. Last tasted, 3/01. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
