Poujeaux 2015 is a classic and robust red from the Moulis-en-Medoc appellation, situated on the gravel-rich summit of the Grand Poujeaux slopes. This 2015 bottling is a traditional blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, reflecting one of the most successful vintages for the region in recent decades. The wine is fermented in a mix of concrete and stainless steel before maturing in French oak barrels, resulting in a dark and concentrated profile of blackcurrants, cedar and tobacco. Its firm tannic structure and refreshing acidity are characteristic of the quaternary gravel soils, providing excellent ageing potential.

The 2015 Poujeaux has a fragrant, quite floral bouquet of pretty red berry fruit, rose petal and damp undergrowth scents. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannin, but there is a fine bead of acidity and a pleasing tobacco-stained finish. Fine, but not long-term. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. Neal Martin1st July 2019

Dark crimson. Refined and pure dark fruit if not yet open. Lots of freshness, the tannins dry and mildly chewy yet balanced by that almost austere dark fruit. (JH)
