Domaine Leroy was formed in 1988 when Lalou Bize-Leroy acquired the estate of Charles Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée and subsequently Philippe-Rémy’s property in Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, Domaine Leroy owns approximately 23 hectares, including impressive holdings in nine Grands Crus and eight Premier Crus. This particular cuvée comes from a single vineyard high up the hill above Pommard. Expect a myriad of aromas including sweet fruit, ethereal spices, sandalwood, pepper and roasted meat. On the palate, the wine is mouth-coating, nuanced, with a firm energy.

(this and the following wines were tasted at Domaine Leroy) Excellent red-ruby color. Very ripe, musky aromas of black cherry, minerals and licorice, with tarry and medicinal nuances. Fat and full, with an almost liqueur-like sweetness along with a repeating medicinal note. Very solid wine that should show more detail with a few years in bottle. Finishes with substantial tannins and a hint of dryness.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2004

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
