Based in the commune of Pommard, Domaine de Courcel is an 11-hectare property still owned and run by the founding family. The estate includes holdings in four Premier Cru sites, Les Frémiers, Les Croix Noires, Le Grand Clos des Épenots and Les Rugiens, where this release comes from. 1996 was an outstanding vintage for both white and red Burgundy which are drinking beautifully now.

Vinous
Very good deep red. Deeper, broader, more expressive nose combines redcurrant, coffee, cola, iron and animal fur, plus a suggestion of truffle. Fat and rich; shows considerably more volume and texture than the Epenots yet seems at least as fresh. The tannins are rich and suave, but here they are more successfully buffered by middle-palate extract.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1999
