Established in the 1940s, Domaine Joseph Voillot spans approximately 8 hectares, split into 35 parcels in Volnay, Pommard, Meursault and Beaune. This particular cuvée comes from Le Clos Micault, a walled premier cru vineyard within the Pommard appellation. The vineyard is named after Comte Vivant de Micault, who built the Château de Pommard around vineyards formerly cultivated by Cistercian monks. The vines here are 65 years old and planted on shallow soil of Jurassic limestone and white marl.
Vinous
The 2018 Pommard Clos Micault 1er Cru comes from 0.13 hectares of vine planted in 1958. It has a lovely bouquet, well defined and focused, with precise blackberry, raspberry and undergrowth aromas. The medium-bodied palate matches supple tannin with fine acidity, and veins of dark chocolate run through the red and black fruit, leading to a quite a dense finish for this lesser-known Premier Cru. Very fine. Three barrels produced.Neal Martin1st January 2020
