The Pol Roger Brut Vintage is meticulously crafted in limited quantities, utilizing the traditional House blend sourced from twenty Grand and Premier Cru vineyards across the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. Its second fermentation takes place in the coldest cellars of Pol Roger, situated an impressive thirty-three meters below ground level, where temperatures reach a mere 9°C. This cooler environment prolongs the bottle fermentation process, resulting in champagne with finer and more delicate bubbles – a defining characteristic for which these exclusive small-production releases from Pol Roger are renowned. Following an extensive ageing period of nine years in the cellars, the champagne undergoes disgorgement and is finally released to the world.

Pol Roger's 2002 Brut Vintage is showing beautifully, bursting from the glass with an expressive bouquet of confit lemon and pear mingled with nuances of brioche, wheat toast, honeycomb and dried white flowers. Full-bodied, broad and textural, this is a rich, vinous Champagne that's ample and complex, underpinned by lively acids and concluding with a long, saline finish.William Kelley16th July 2020
