Founded in 1849, Pol Roger is one of the most prestigious names in Champagne. The Maison remains family owned, and it is currently in the hands of the fifth generation of the Pol Roger and De Billy families. Its portfolio includes a non-vintage brut, a vintage brut, a demi-sec, a brut nature, a rosé and a blanc de blancs. The 1996 vintage is mature but very much alive, boasting notes of sourdough, caramel, almonds and some chalky minerality.

Very pale, bright color. Knockout nose of lemon, orange blossom, chalk, minerals and flowers offers great lift; pristine and vibrant. Wonderfully ripe, pure and perfumed in the mouth, with penetrating, sappy acidity contributing to the impression of structure and cut. Very intense lemon, lime, mineral and floral flavors complicated by an exotic suggestion of guava. A classic 1996 in its combination of full ripeness and bracing acidity. Palate-staining, very ripe aftertaste. This will be even better for a few years of additional bottle aging.Stephen Tanzer1st November 2003

Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill was launched in 1984 as the house's Prestige cuvée. Created in homage to Sir Winston Churchill, a lifelong lover of the Champagne House, the cuvée's style emulates the qualities that he preferred - robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity.
