Danish-born nephew of Peter Vinding-Diers, Peter Sisseck, rented 10 acres of old Tempranillo/Tinto Fino vines in the heart of Ribero del Duero to create the magnificent Pingus, the first vintage of which was the 1995. Quintessentially Spanish, made using 100% Tinto Fino from extremely low yields, this is a wine with unique concentration, balance and length. The perfect harmony of ripe fruit, beautifully integrated tannins and elegant floral complexity. Superb.

Glass-staining ruby. Powerful, highly scented aromas of spice-tinged red and blue fruit preserves, pipe tobacco, incense and mocha; a smoky mineral overtone builds as the wine opens up. Alluringly sweet, mineral-laced black raspberry, cherry-vanilla and floral pastille flavors show impressive depth and energy and complementary suggestions of spicecake, candied violet and bitter chocolate. Combines power and delicacy with a steady hand and finishes supple, sweet and extremely long, with gently gripping tannins making a late appearance.Josh Raynolds1st February 2021
