Situated within the Pauillac appellation, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a prestigious Second Growth estate owned by Louis Roederer Champagne. This release is the 2020 vintage of its Grand Vin, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, aged for 12 months in oak barrels [40% new]. The wine delights the palate with its impeccable harmony of strength, richness and refined structure. Presented here in a generous magnum bottle.
99 Vinous
The 2020 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has one of the more opulent aromatic profiles amongst the flight of Pauillac wines, displaying black cherries, cassis, graphite and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins and a silver bead of acidity. Silky smooth in texture, this retains impressive composure toward the finish, handling the weight of fruit with class. It improves with each swirl, though the bottle I tasted just after bottling had a touch more precision. Nevertheless, this a fabulous Pauillac that flirts with perfection. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Neal Martin12th November 2024

The 2020 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is made from 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs considerable swirling to bring out fragrant scents of lilacs, tilled soil, rosehip tea, and Sichuan pepper, giving way to a core of cassis, black raspberries, and cedar chest with emerging iron ore and charcoal scents. The medium-bodied palate is so tightly knit, with firm, grainy tannins and lovely tension, finishing long and minerally.Lisa Perrotti-Brown12th March 2023

Stands out from the lineup as ever, a stunning wine with silky smooth tannins that are fine in character but abundant, offering decades of growth ahead. Finessed and juicy blackcurrant, blueberry and bilberry fruit, waves of tobacco, heather, liquorice root, crushed rocks, cigar box, pomegranate, orange peel and pencil lead. So consistent, amazing. 60% new oak, 30hl/ha yield, Nicolas Glumineau director. An upscore from En Primeur.Jane Anson20th February 2023

A Benchmark Pauillac

Also known by the full name of Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, the estate is celebrated for its Grand Vin, a Pauillac Second Growth which is a wonderfully vibrant red with well-structured, characterful tannins. Seen as one of the benchmark producers from Pauillac and well-known for wines that offer beautifully ripe fruit, sumptuous texture and deep savoury complexity.

With currently 74 hectares of vineyards in production, 50% is used to produce the first wine, whilst the remaining 50% - from younger vines- goes into producing the estate's second wine, Pichon Comtesse Réserve (known as Réserve de la Comtesse prior to 2017). Key varieties are the classic red Bordeaux grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
