`Château Pichon Lalande 2021 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a prestigious Second Growth estate owned by Louis Roederer Champagne. Here available in impériale format, the 2021 vintage is undeniably exceptional, crafted from a blend comprising 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Merlot. The wine greets the senses with exuberantly fresh and ripe fruit aromas, which lead to a lusciously rich and full-bodied palate. Its charm is further accentuated by complex and lingering flavours that leave a lasting impression.

The 2021 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a towering wine. Just as it did en primeur, the 2021 dazzles from start to finish. The Cabernets are very high in the blend, and that comes through in a Saint-Julien endowed with ton of explosive vertical lift. Lavender, dried herbs, mint, spice, rose petal and a kick of orange peel are some of the notes that run through this striking Pichon Comtesse. The aromatics alone are compelling, but everything about the 2021 speaks to class personified. Bright saline notes extend the finish. In a word: sublime. Antonio Galloni27th February 2024

This delivers fragrant, understated, sculpted, classic Pauillac, with savoury cassis bud, liquorice, fennel, mint leaf, cigar box, cassis, rose petals and undergrowth. Fine but plentiful tannins, with tension and elegance, plenty of ageing ahead, although no need to wait as long as in vintages like 2020 or 2022. 15hl/h yield, 3.76ph. 60% new oak for ageing (up to 700% for first three months only). First year organic conversion.Jane Anson2nd April 2024

A blend of 88% Cabernet sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Merlot, the 2021 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has a deep garnet-purple color. It gallops out with profound notions of juicy blackberries, freshly crushed blackcurrants, and redcurrant preserves, leading to fragrant wafts of violets, aniseed, and sassafras, with a touch of wild sage. The light to medium-bodied palate is graceful and shimmery, with a lively line and firm, fine-grained tannins framing the energetic black fruits, finishing long with a tingly, minerally lift.Lisa Perrotti-Brown23rd April 2024

A Benchmark Pauillac

Also known by the full name of Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, the estate is celebrated for its Grand Vin, a Pauillac Second Growth which is a wonderfully vibrant red with well-structured, characterful tannins. Seen as one of the benchmark producers from Pauillac and well-known for wines that offer beautifully ripe fruit, sumptuous texture and deep savoury complexity.

With currently 74 hectares of vineyards in production, 50% is used to produce the first wine, whilst the remaining 50% - from younger vines- goes into producing the estate's second wine, Pichon Comtesse Réserve (known as Réserve de la Comtesse prior to 2017). Key varieties are the classic red Bordeaux grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
