Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2014 is a crafted blend, primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, from the renowned Second Growth estate in Pauillac. This excellent vintage demonstrates a solid structure with a focus on mature fruit characteristics and a nuanced evolution. Expect layers of savoury flavours including truffle, tobacco, and dried herbs. The estate, established in the early 18th century, is notable for its commitment to quality and consistency, making it a significant player in the Bordeaux wine hierarchy.

Caressing and finessed tannins, with a pronounced floral character to the Cabernet Sauvingon, fragrant tomato leaf and iris alongside the dark cassis and bilberry fruits. Love this, totally delivering on the potential of 2014 in this corner of the Médoc. Hard to resist. This was the longest harvest on record at the estate, stretching from September 16 to October 14. 36hl/h yield, 60% new oak. First year in the new cellar, 3.61ph.Jane Anson8th February 2024

The 2014 Pichon Comtesse de Lalande has a gorgeous bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, scents of pencil box and wild hedgerow, gaining intensity in the glass. It is a little more opulent than the Pichon Baron. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, silky smooth in texture, moving discretely towards secondary flavors. However, the finish is brighter than many of its peers. Excellent. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting and blind at the Southwold 10-Year On. Neal Martin19th March 2024

The 2014 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has an expressive bouquet with lively blackberry, cedar, flint and graphite aromas that are not powerful, yet display admirable precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, the Merlot content lending this Pauillac its trademark fleshiness and roundness, yet there is clearly structure here (not always a trait of this Pauillac growth). It will develop more complexity and personality with bottle age, but at the moment you can sit back and just admire the cohesion and superb length. Winemaker Nicolas Glumineau has overseen a quite wonderful Pichon-Lalande, one with inbuilt longevity. - Neal Martin

The 2014 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. Notes of black cherry compote, preserved plums, and incense slowly drift from the glass, with underlying hints of cedar, violets, espresso, and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate delivers impressive tension and soft, approachable tannins, with plenty of fragrant black fruit and a touch of wood on the finish.Lisa Perrotti-Brown5th March 2024

A Benchmark Pauillac

Also known by the full name of Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, the estate is celebrated for its Grand Vin, a Pauillac Second Growth which is a wonderfully vibrant red with well-structured, characterful tannins. Seen as one of the benchmark producers from Pauillac and well-known for wines that offer beautifully ripe fruit, sumptuous texture and deep savoury complexity.

With currently 74 hectares of vineyards in production, 50% is used to produce the first wine, whilst the remaining 50% - from younger vines- goes into producing the estate's second wine, Pichon Comtesse Réserve (known as Réserve de la Comtesse prior to 2017). Key varieties are the classic red Bordeaux grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
