Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2012 is a red wine from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux. This Second Growth is a classic expression of its terroir, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon grown on deep gravel beds, offering notes of crème de cacao, cedar and dark currants. It avoids heavy extraction, instead focusing on a linear structure and elegant, fine-grained tannins. The wine was aged in 80% new oak, providing a subtle spice that complements the intense, gravel-inflected fruit.
94 Vinous
The 2012 Pichon Baron has a fragrant bouquet with well-defined black fruit, cedar and subtle sous-bois aromas, unfolding with a sense of confidence with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity, good weight and body. Well-proportioned towards the finish, this is a classy Pauillac and has the edge over Pichon-Lalande at the moment. Tasted twice at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year-On tasting and blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Neal Martin27th September 2022

Representing 50% of the production that year, the deep garnet-black colored 2012 Pichon Baron needs a fair bit of coaxing and swirling to unlock notes of crème de cassis, fruit cake, licorice, and unsmoked cigars, leading to hints of red currant preserves, Sichuan pepper, and dusty soil. Medium-bodied, the palate has a great intensity of savory laced black fruits preserves with a grainy texture and mineral laced finish. Drinking nicely now, it should continue to cellar for another 15 years.Lisa Perrotti-Brown16th February 2023
