Château Phélan Ségur 2005 is a mature-vintage Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine produced in the Saint-Estèphe appellation on the Left Bank of the Gironde river in Bordeaux. With a history dating back to the late 18th century, Château Phélan-Ségur is a beautiful 70-hectare estate situated in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The property has changed hands a few times over the course of the years, and it’s currently owned by Philippe Van de Vyvere, the Belgian founder and owner of shipping company Sea-Invest. "The 2005 vintage of Château Phélan-Ségur is one of the finest I have ever tasted from this property, and this has to be one of the great sleepers of the vintage. The bouquet is deep, pure and complex, offering up scents of sappy black cherries, sweet cassis, cigar smoke, a fine base of dark soil, incipient notes of truffles and a nice touch of nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely structured, with a really solid core of fruit, fine focus and grip, firm, but well-integrated tannins and a long, quite serious finish. This is punching above its weight class in 2005!" John Gilman, 2020

One of the stronger efforts in St.-Estèphe in 2005, this Phélan-Sègur exhibits good depth of fruit, including mulberry, black and red currants, earth and spice. It is medium-bodied, with sweet tannin and excellent concentration. Drink it over the next 12-15 years.Robert Parker29th June 2015

(a 50/50 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Bright, full ruby. Violet, blackberry and licorice on the nose. Bright, juicy and focused, with very good density and purity of black fruit flavors. Finishes with fairly full, slightly drying tannins but has the strength of material to support its solid structure. Should develop slowly. A good showing today.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2006
