The second wine of Clos Cantenac, the 2019 vintage is composed of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in oak (20% new) for 12 months. Offering up fresh and lush rich notes of black plums, cassis, raspberry, figs, and fine leather with hints of ginger, spice and soft vanillary new oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm, carefully weighted tannins, leading towards a rounded, supple, blackberry, mocha and plum finish. Drink. 2022-2028

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Petit Cantenac has pretty, open-knit scents of kirsch, black raspberries and boysenberries with touches of bouquet garni, dusty soil and black olives. Medium-bodied, the palate has plenty of lively black and red fruits with invigorating herbal accents and an earthy undercurrent coming through on the chewy finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Vinous
The 2019 Petit Cantenac is fragrant and understated on the nose, brambly black fruit mixed with briary give way to slightly floral scents, pastille-like purity emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and a zingy salinity. Becoming evermore peppery with aeration, it does not impress in terms of weight, but succeeds in delivering a fresh and vivacious Saint-Émilion with joie-de-vivre.
