The Peter Michael Ma Danseuse Pinot Noir 2011 is a single-vineyard red wine produced by Peter Michael Winery, situated in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of California`s Sonoma Coast. This vintage reflects the cooler and wetter growing conditions of the year, resulting in a wine marked by a fresh, savoury character. The grapes are sourced from the high-elevation Ma Danseuse vineyard, where gold ridge soil and proximity to the Pacific Ocean influence the flavour profile. Peter Michael employs traditional methods, including native fermentation and ageing in French oak barrels, to express the vineyard`s distinctive terroir. This vintage is notably defined by its bright red fruit, earthiness and subtle mineral notes.

The 2011 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse is the most lifted, bright and aromatic of these three Pinots from Peter Michael. Sweet red berries, mint, rose petals and slate meld together in a silky Pinot graced with considerable near and medium-term appeal. Cranberry and savory herbs notes inform a brilliant, chiseled finish supported by veins of salinity and minerality. This is a lovely showing. Over the last year, Ma Danseuse has come together well, and is now the most complete of Peter Michael's three Sonoma Coast Pinots.Antonio Galloni1st February 2014

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
