Peter Michael Ma Belle-Fille Chardonnay 2016 is a white wine from the Sonoma Coast, California, crafted by Peter Michael Winery. This vintage benefits from a warm, dry growing season, promoting even ripening of the grapes, which are grown on a unique combination of clay and volcanic soils. The wine undergoes fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels, incorporating a portion of new oak. Aromas encompass white peach, citrus zest and hazelnut. The palate offers a structured profile with mineral undertones and a lengthy finish.

The 2016 Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille is one of the more reticent wines in the range. Like all of the 2016s at Peter Michael, Ma Belle Fille is tightly wound, perhaps a reflection of the high altitude (the highest on the property) of the 12 parcels that inform the blend. A host of bright saline notes add freshness to the natural richness of these old Wente Chardonnay clones.Antonio Galloni1st July 2018

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
