The Peter Michael Ma Belle-Fille Chardonnay 2012 is a single-vineyard white wine crafted from grapes exclusively sourced from the Ma Belle-Fille vineyard, situated in Sonoma County`s Knights Valley AVA. This estate-owned site features steep volcanic soils and an elevation of 1,700-1,900 feet, which influences the wine`s maturation. Winemaking techniques incorporate whole-cluster pressing and fermentation in French oak barrels, with a portion being new oak. The result is a Chardonnay that offers notes of citrus, stone fruit and a subtle minerality, displaying complexity through careful ageing. Peter Michael Winery, founded in 1982, is renowned for its commitment to small-batch, artisan production.

Green-tinged yellow. Vibrant aromas of lime, anise, chalky minerals and honeysuckle show impressive clarity and a hint of iodine. Firm, tightly focused and dry, offering mineral-driven citrus and orchard fruit flavors and complicating ginger and quinine nuances. Finishes racy and pure, with strong, clinging mineral and citrus zest flavors.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2014

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
