The Peter Michael Ma Belle-Fille Chardonnay 2011 is a single-vineyard white wine hailing from the prestigious Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County, California. This vintage showcases grapes sourced solely from the estate-owned Ma Belle-Fille vineyard, located at high elevation. The vineyard’s volcanic soil and steep slopes contribute to the wine’s character. Following a Burgundian approach, the producer employs whole-cluster pressing and fermentation with native yeasts in French oak barrels, with significant new oak. The result is a Chardonnay with notes of stone fruit, citrus and a mineral backbone. Peter Michael Winery, established in 1982 by Peter and Susan Michael, focuses on terroir-driven wines.

Bright yellow. Smoky pear and tangerine aromas gain power with air, taking on a richer yellow plum quality. Chewy, densely packed poached pear and peach pit flavors coat the palate, with dusty minerality providing shape. Finishes lush, creamy and long, with a repeating pear note and a hint of floral honey.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2014

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
