`Peter Michael Les Pavots 2014 is a full -bodied single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the Sonoma County region of California. Les Pavots is the flagship blend of the estate, and the wine Sir Peter Michael had in his mind’s eye when he began his search for a vineyard site in 1976. Typically the blend is made up of two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. "Incredible aromas of pine tree, mineral, cigar box and tobacco leaf but then it turns to currants and black truffle. Forest fruit and forest floor. Soya. Full body, round and decadent with a combination of ripe fruit and earth, spice and long finish. The uniqueness of Pavot is streaming here. " James Suckling, 2018

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Pavots is striking, but it is also going to need at least a few years to come into its own, as it is presently very tightly wound and reticent. Grilled herb, smoke, tobacco, licorice, game and incense overtones give the bouquet tons of depth. On the palate, though, the wine is quite a bit less forthcoming. Readers will have to be patient. In 2014, Les Pavots is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot.Antonio Galloni1st July 2018

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
