Peter Michael Les Pavots 2010 is the flagship red wine from Peter Michael Winery, situated in the Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County, California. This vintage features a Bordeaux-style blend predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, with contributions from Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Sourced exclusively from the Les Pavots estate vineyard at elevations of up to 425m, the grapes grow on volcanic rhyolite soils. The wine undergoes meticulous winemaking, including fermentation and approximately 18 months aging in new French oak, resulting in a complex profile of black fruits, tobacco, and cedar.

The 2010 Les Pavots has come together nicely since last year. Black fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice, grilled herbs and new leather burst from the glass. The 2010 is intense and explosive to the core, with terrific richness, volume and breadth. A huge, resonant finish rounds things out nicely. The 2010 Pavots is a classic Peter Michael red built on power and layers of flavor. The blend is 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot.Antonio Galloni1st February 2014

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
