Peter Michael Le Moulin Rouge Pinot Noir 2012 is a notable expression from the renowned Peter Michael Winery, situated in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of California. This wine is sourced entirely from the Le Moulin Rouge vineyard, known for its high elevation and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, which influences grape development. The vineyard`s unique gold ridge soil enhances the wine`s structure. The Pinot Noir undergoes native yeast fermentation and is aged in French oak barrels, with minimal intervention. Expect aromas of red fruits, herbal notes and a mineral quality characteristic of this terroir.

- Deep ruby. Vibrant dark berry, rose, white pepper and potpourri aromas show very good clarity and lift. Sweet, sappy and pliant, with a suave, silky texture to the deep black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors complicated by floral pastille and black pepper notes. Finishes with excellent clarity, lift and length, the sweet blackberry quality repeating. Morlet noted that working with this fruit, as opposed to the estate grapes, is like playing a different instrument.

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
