The Peter Michael Le Caprice Pinot Noir 2012 is a single-vineyard red wine produced by Peter Michael Winery, situated in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of Sonoma County, California. This wine is crafted solely from Pinot Noir grapes originating from the Le Caprice vineyard, which benefits from its steep, rocky terrain and substantial marine influence. This vintage demonstrates the effects of the favourable 2012 growing season in California, known for its generous fruit yields. The winemaking process includes hand-sorting of grapes and fermentation using native yeasts, with aging in predominantly French oak barrels.
92 Vinous
(50% new oak): Saturated ruby. Black raspberry, incense, rose oil and Asian spices on the nose, with a note of cola gaining strength with air. Sappy and concentrated, with sweet red and dark berry flavors becoming spicier with air. Finishes with impressive energy and lingering red fruit and floral pastille qualities that are unencumbered by tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2014

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
