Peter Michael La Carrière Chardonnay 2016 is a single-vineyard white from Sonoma Coast, California, produced from organically farmed vines planted on deep Goldridge soils. The 2016 vintage, marked by moderate heat and steady ripening, yielded grapes of exceptional aromatic purity and structure. The wine opens with lifted citrus, white peach and floral notes underpinned by subtle minerality, while the palate is vibrant and precise, balancing creamy texture with brisk acidity and a long, saline-tinged finish.

The 2016 Chardonnay La Carrière, from the steepest parcel on the estate, is bright, fresh and finely chiseled, with plenty of citrus peel, flowers, slate and crushed rock nuances. This is a decidedly restrained style for Peter Michael, and it works beautifully. The 2016 is tightly wound at this stage, but it will be gorgeous in another few years. There is a translucency to the 2016 that is super-appealing.Antonio Galloni1st July 2018

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
