The Peter Michael Clos du Ciel Pinot Noir 2013 is a single-vineyard red wine from the Peter Michael Winery, situated in the elevated Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of Sonoma County, California. This wine is crafted from meticulously selected Pinot Noir grapes from the Clos du Ciel vineyard, located at approximately 425m elevation, near the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard benefits from its unique microclimate, characterised by ample sun exposure and cooling ocean breezes. Peter Michael Winery, founded in 1980 by Sir Peter Michael, utilises traditional Burgundy techniques, including native yeast fermentation and French oak ageing, to highlight the vineyard`s terroir. The wine exhibits notes of black cherry, forest floor and subtle spice, complemented by a structured palate with refined tannins.

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
