The Peter Michael Belle Côte Chardonnay 2017 is a single-vineyard wine from the Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County, California. Sourced from the estate’s oldest Chardonnay vineyard, planted in 1990, it benefits from a high elevation that promotes a slow ripening process. This vintage is crafted using Burgundian techniques, including hand-harvesting and natural fermentation in French oak barrels, with a notable proportion of new oak. The resulting profile displays notes of citrus, white florals and mineral undercurrents, with a structure that reveals the complexity expected from mature vines.
95 Vinous
The 2017 Chardonnay Belle-Côte emerges from the oldest vines on the property, planted in 1990, and is a mix of three clones: See, Wente and Rued. The Belle- Côte is distinguished in this range by its powerful, phenolic personality and overall density. The 2017 is a big wine that needs time in the cellar to be at its best. Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
