The Peter Michael Belle Côte Chardonnay 2016, from the renowned Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County, is crafted from the estate`s oldest Chardonnay vineyard, planted in 1990. This single-vineyard wine benefits from a unique high-elevation site, which offers a cool microclimate and rocky volcanic soils that contribute to the prolonged ripening of the grapes. The winemaking process includes hand-harvesting, whole-cluster pressing and native yeast fermentation in French oak barrels, with meticulous lees ageing. The result reflects the vineyard`s singular characteristics, featuring pronounced notes of citrus, stone fruit and a nuanced minerality.

The 2016 Chardonnay Belle-Côte is bright, precise and wonderfully nuanced. In 2016, Belle-Côte stands out for its intensely mineral, savory personality. Today, the Belle-Côte is not as immediate as most of the other Chardonnays in the range, but it impresses with its balance, persistence and class. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s density and power. As always, the Belle-Côte emphasizes structure over a more obvious expression of fruit. Antonio Galloni1st July 2018

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
