Pepe Raventós Xarel·lo de la Vinya del Noguer Alt 2023 is a single-vineyard wine from the Penedès region in Spain. Grapes are sourced from a 2.10-hectare site planted with Xarel·lo in 1970. The gobelet-trained vines thrive on poor clay and limestone soils, resulting in low yields that enhance flavour concentration. The vineyard is cultivated biodynamically, utilising Pepe Raventós`s own preparations and compost from the family estate. Fermented spontaneously in neutral oak and aged on fine lees, this wine captures the variety’s saline tension and subtle bitter-mineral edge, reflecting Raventós’s ongoing pursuit of terroir expression outside the conventions of Cava and the increasingly fine-boned style of his single-parcel bottlings.

Full bottle 1,309 g. 100% Xarello from a single vineyard (Vinya del Noguer) of old gobelet vines planted in 1970. 2.1 ha on clay and limestone. 2023 was a dry, warm vintage (the third in a row). Hand-picked. Whole-bunch pressing, light racking. Spontaneous fermentation at 18–20 °C in a 2,000-litre French oak foudre, two 1,000-litre amphorae, and two 500-litre French oak barrels. Eight months on lees. Unfined, unfiltered. No oenological additives at any point. Bottled 6 June 2024 and held back for nine months in bottle. TA 6.1 g/l, pH 3.27, RS < 0.5 g/l, total SO2 15 mg/l. 5,314 bottles. Organically and biodynamically farmed, not certified. Very, very slightly hazy. Light gold. Humming with minerality and lemony salinity. Taut as a violin E string. Smells of gorse blossom and lemon peel. Tastes of pith and light and green apples and black pepper and rock salt and it tastes as if it might snap in my mouth. Long, but still very much an embryo. I wouldn`t hurry to drink this. (TC)
