Pensees de Lafleur 2015 is a red wine from the Pomerol appellation, crafted by the Guinaudeau family, renowned for their commitment to traditional winemaking. Sourced from a distinctive U shaped plot within the Château Lafleur estate, this wine benefits from a higher clay content in the soil, which influences its character. The 2015 vintage, acclaimed for its ideal growing conditions, features a blend primarily of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, achieving an alcohol content of 14%. Aged in French oak barrels, it reveals aromas of black cherries, subtle florals, and graphite, showcasing a more accessible profile than its grand vin counterpart. The finish is defined by refreshing minerality and fine tannins, exemplifying the precision of Pomerol’s terroir.

The 2015 Pensées de Lafleur has a clean and precise, mineral-driven bouquet that is razor-sharp. It feels tightly wound but the focus is certainly here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, plenty of cedar and tobacco-tinged black fruit with a truffle and smoke infused finish that feels very long. Excellent. 54% Merlot picked 21 Sep and 46% Cabernet Franc picked 2 Oct. From a particular parcel in the Ch Lafleur vineyard – more clay than gravel. Edge of ruby on mid – but not that concentrated – crimson. Attractively toasty (Baptiste says `burgundian`). Very round and mouth-filling. Super charming. Rich, even with a hint of Grenache! So sweet and scented. Hint of ink on the end. Very rich and seductive. Still some freshness too. (JR)

Pomerol's Other Superstar
Château Lafleur has come to be recognised as one of greatest producers in Pomerol, offering wines of incredible balance, purity and elegance, with distinct mineral character. A stand out name for Bordeaux's Right Bank, the estate also produces a second red, Les Pensées de Lafleur, produced from a 0.68ha plot with its own distinct terroir - resulting in a lighter, more fragrant style compared to the Lafleur.
Despite both wines being classic blends of Cabernet Franc and Merlot with 20% new oak, the result is two quite different expressions: for example the the dominance of cigar-box and graphite Cabernet Franc complexity in the Lafleur.
