Owned by Swiss entrepreneur Silvio Denz since 2005, Château Péby Faugères is a Grand Cru Classé property in Saint-Émilion, situated inside the larger Château Faugères. Its 7.5-hectare vineyard, which began its conversion to organic production in 2017, is planted entirely to Merlot on clay-limestone soils. This release is the 2019 vintage of its flagship wine. It is a juicy expression, filled with blackberries, tobacco, dark chocolate and crushed stones. Best enjoyed from 2025 onwards.

The 2019 Péby-Faugères has a powerful bouquet, but as I mentioned a few months ago, there is delineation and fine focus here. Lavish and generous. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins and layers of heady black fruit matched by a keen line of acidity. Very concentrated (yields were 21hL/ha). This is not a shy Saint-Émilion, but it conveys a sense of class.
