Here is a luxurious Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion made from 100% Merlot matured in 65% new oak. The 2016 vintage is a wine with polish. look for an array of red and black fruits, together with complexity from spice, chocolate and leather notes.

The 2016 Peby Faugeres (100% Merlot aged for 18 months in 65% new French oak barriques) has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. Wow—it slides sensuously out of the glass with scents of candied violets, Chinese five spice and chocolate box over a core of baked plums, black cherry compote and warm black raspberries plus wafts of new leather and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is decadently spicy, with bags of black fruit preserves framed by plush tannins, finishing with a refreshing lift.Lisa Perrotti-Brown30th November 2018
Vinous
The 2016 Péby-Faugères has a sweaty and rather oxidised nose. The palate is over-laboured and acutely lacks freshness and charm. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. Neal Martin16th April 2026
