The Paul Hobbs Ross Station Estate Chardonnay 2012 originates from meticulously tended vines in the cool climate of Russian River Valley, specifically the Green Valley section. This vintage showcases fruit sourced from the renowned Mt Eden clone. The wine exhibits aromas of lemon zest, ripe pear, and hints of flint, complemented by a subtle structure from ageing in French oak barrels. Its acidity provides a refreshing balance, while the palate presents a rounded texture.

The 2012 Chardonnay Ross Station Estate is another immediate, boisterous wine. There is plenty of depth and richness, but overall, the 2012 comes across as a bit rough around the edges and four-square relative to the other wines in the range. The 2012 has come together well since I tasted it last year, but it is clearly a step behind the rest of the offerings in the range.
