Palmer 1988 is a Bordeaux blend from the Margaux appellation, produced by Château Palmer. The vineyard spans 52 hectares, focusing on the cultivation of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot grapes. The 1988 vintage benefitted from warm temperatures and extended sunshine, allowing for optimal grape ripening. This wine exhibits a balanced structure, reflecting the unique terroir of Margaux. This magnum format further encourages longevity in the bottle.
88 Robert Parker
The 1988 offers a promising bouquet of ripe plums, dense, rich, concentrated fruit, and medium body, but I was surprised by the relatively compact finish. Nevertheless, this is one of the best wines of the Margaux appellation in 1988. Anticipated maturity. 1994-2006. Last tasted, 10/92. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Classic, Concentrated Margaux

Château Palmer is a 3ème Cru Classé property and is one of the most celebrated estates in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, renowned for producing rich and opulent wines with exceptional longevity. The 55 hectare estate is characterised by its mixture of fine and sandy gravels, together with clay soils. The key grape varieties are old vine Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, all farmed biodynamically, resulting in superbly elegant, velvety wines with a wonderful capacity to age and evolve in bottle.

In addition to the first wine, Château Palmer, the estate produces a second red from specific plots, Alter Ego de Palmer. Created to be as equally terroir-driven and expressive as the Grand Vin, the Alter Ego is supple, rounded and more approachable in youth.
