First released in 1998, Alter Ego de Palmer is the second wine of Margaux Third Growth, Château Palmer. It was created to be as equally terroir-driven and expressive as the grand vin, but would be supple, rounded and more approachable in youth. The 2013 is a medium-bodied and tensile wine composed of 46% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. Perfect for earlier drinking, this would make the ideal accompaniment to roasted beef or lamb.
Vinous
Red cherry jam, raspberries, white flowers and spices flesh out on the 2013 Alter Ego. A juicy, succulent wine, the Alter Ego offers lovely up-front fruit married to the bright, lively acidity of the year. Sweet floral notes reappear on the lifted finish. This is a very pretty, feminine wine with plenty of near-term appeal. There is a lot to like here. The blend is 48% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot.Antonio Galloni1st April 2014

Chateau Palmer

Classic, Concentrated Margaux

Château Palmer is a 3ème Cru Classé property and is one of the most celebrated estates in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, renowned for producing rich and opulent wines with exceptional longevity. The 55 hectare estate is characterised by its mixture of fine and sandy gravels, together with clay soils. The key grape varieties are old vine Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, all farmed biodynamically, resulting in superbly elegant, velvety wines with a wonderful capacity to age and evolve in bottle.

In addition to the first wine, Château Palmer, the estate produces a second red from specific plots, Alter Ego de Palmer. Created to be as equally terroir-driven and expressive as the Grand Vin, the Alter Ego is supple, rounded and more approachable in youth.
