The 2014 Palmer is presented as a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, aged in 65% new French oak. This vintage exhibits a deep crimson hue with a complex bouquet featuring notes of blackcurrant, plum and subtle earthy undertones. The palate reveals a structured yet balanced profile, with a medium to full body reflecting the precision typical of this estate. Palmer, located in Margaux, has a history of crafting wines that express the terroir, and this vintage should evolve well over the next decade. Drink between 2025 and 2045.

Beautifully poised, with spiced damson and raspberry fruits, higher acidity than you find in the 2015 or 2016, juicy and just about opening up to drink. Has the generous floral character of a maturing Palmer, where the peony and roses start to take off through the mid palate, hovering above the berry fruits, layering up with complexity, thoroughly enjoyable. A good 10 to 15 years ahead of pleasure. This was the 200th anniversary vintage since General Charles Palmer bought the wine estate from Madame de Gascq. Harvest September 22 to October 14, 60% new oak.Jane Anson8th February 2024

Deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Palmer features evocative scents of stewed plums, blackberry preserves, and garrigue with hints of leather, Indian spices, and underbrush. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock full of black fruit preserves and exotic spice notes framed by plush tannins, finishing long and opulent.Lisa Perrotti-Brown5th March 2024

The 2014 Palmer has an attractive bouquet with red berry fruit, cedar, undergrowth and veins of blue fruit. This opens nicely in the glass, but I certainly would not classify it as one of Palmer's more opulent aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins, mainly red fruit intermixed with white pepper, cedar and orange rind. Linear in style, this is a Palmer that doesn't want to show off and remains within the limitations of the growing season. It should offer another 20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind. Ripe fruited, chewy, powerful. Better than the first bottle but still quite chunky and slightly bitter on the finish. (JH)Julia Harding8th February 2024

Chateau Palmer

Classic, Concentrated Margaux

Château Palmer is a 3ème Cru Classé property and is one of the most celebrated estates in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, renowned for producing rich and opulent wines with exceptional longevity. The 55 hectare estate is characterised by its mixture of fine and sandy gravels, together with clay soils. The key grape varieties are old vine Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, all farmed biodynamically, resulting in superbly elegant, velvety wines with a wonderful capacity to age and evolve in bottle.

In addition to the first wine, Château Palmer, the estate produces a second red from specific plots, Alter Ego de Palmer. Created to be as equally terroir-driven and expressive as the Grand Vin, the Alter Ego is supple, rounded and more approachable in youth.
