Palmer 1974 is a red wine from Bordeaux`s Margaux appellation, classified as a Third Growth since the 1855 classification. The blend typically features Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller quantities of Petit Verdot. The 1974 vintage faced significant challenges, primarily due to a cold, wet September that affected grape ripeness, leading to wines that are noted for their lightness and herbaceous qualities. Although Château Palmer is renowned for its strong terroir and meticulous production, the 1974 is likely to show notes of red fruit and earthiness, with an approachably soft structure, suggesting it has already reached full maturity.

Classic, Concentrated Margaux

Château Palmer is a 3ème Cru Classé property and is one of the most celebrated estates in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, renowned for producing rich and opulent wines with exceptional longevity. The 55 hectare estate is characterised by its mixture of fine and sandy gravels, together with clay soils. The key grape varieties are old vine Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, all farmed biodynamically, resulting in superbly elegant, velvety wines with a wonderful capacity to age and evolve in bottle.

In addition to the first wine, Château Palmer, the estate produces a second red from specific plots, Alter Ego de Palmer. Created to be as equally terroir-driven and expressive as the Grand Vin, the Alter Ego is supple, rounded and more approachable in youth.
