The Occidental SWK Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018 is a single-vineyard red wine from the extreme Sonoma Coast AVA in California, produced by Occidental Wines, established by renowned winemaker Steve Kistler. This vineyard, bearing Kistler`s initials, features high elevation and marine sedimentary soils, significantly influenced by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The winemaking process includes hand-harvesting, 100% destemming, and native yeast fermentation, with oak ageing predominantly in French barrels. Characteristics of this vintage include bright acidity, a focus on restrained red fruit and subtle savoury notes, demonstrating the vineyard’s cool-climate terroir.

The 2018 Pinot Noir SWK Vineyard, from the high, steeped section of the Bodega Headlands ranch, is one of the most hauntingly beautiful, mesmerizing wines I have tasted from Occidental. A Pinot of majestic complexity and nuance, the 2018 possesses stunning depth and intensity right out of the gate. Lavender, spice, crushed rocks, mint and blood orange infuse the 2018 with magnificent depth. The 2018 SWK has it all; captivating aromatics, beautifully layered fruit, and tons of structure. It is another fabulous wine from this benchmark Pinot vintage on the Sonoma Coast. Antonio Galloni1st January 2021
