Occidental Running Fence Vineyard Cuvée Catherine Pinot Noir 2018 is a single-vineyard wine from the extreme Sonoma Coast AVA. Produced by Occidental Wines, founded by notable winemaker Steve Kistler, this wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes sourced from a site characterised by its steep slopes and rocky, marine sediment soils. The winemaking process follows a minimalist approach, involving hand-harvesting, 100% destemming, and fermentation with native yeasts, followed by maturation in new French oak. This vintage reflects a nuanced interplay of acidity, red fruit and minerality, showcasing the vineyard’s distinct terroir.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Running Fence Vineyard Cuvée Catherine is endowed with serious depth and intensity that give it a real feeling of vertical depth. The fruit profile leans towards the more blue/purplish realm, but it is the wine's understated richness that is impossible to miss. Bright saline notes underpin it all, leading to a beautifully sculpted finish that resonates with tremendous mineral intensity. In a word: dazzling. The Cuvée Catherine emerges from vines that surround the tasting room. Antonio Galloni1st January 2021
