The Occidental Occidental Station Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 presents a specific expression of the Sonoma Coast AVA, produced by Occidental Wines, under the guidance of winemaker Steve Kistler. This vineyard, characterised by its iron-rich, pebbly sandstone soils, contributes to the wine`s complexity. Using a minimalist winemaking approach, the process includes hand-harvesting, 100% destemming, and native yeast fermentation, with maturation in French oak barrels, typically incorporating around 20-25% new oak. This vintage showcases the cool-climate influences, resulting in a wine with potential for further development and a unique sense of place.

Vinous
The 2019 Pinot Noir Occidental Station is the most overt of these wines. Explosive red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, sage and rose petal soar out of the glass. Soft and pliant for a young Occidental Pinot, the Occidental Station will drink well with just a few years in bottle. There is plenty of energy and vibrancy, but the Occidental Station is a bit showier than the other wines in the range. Silky contours lend raciness and yet there is plenty of mineral brightness lurking beneath. The 2019 is a real charmer, that much is clear.Antonio Galloni1st January 2022
