Nyetimber Tillington Single Vineyard 2016 originates from the Tillington vineyard, situated within the South Downs National Park. This site is characterised by its unique Cretaceous greensand geology, which affects the vine health and fruit development. The wine features a distinct autolytic quality with notes of toasty bread and ripe citrus, primarily lemon, alongside subtle hints of honeyed stone fruit. The palate presents a balance between richness and high acidity, indicative of its youthfulness. This vintage shows potential for further maturation, with a structured profile that suggests it will develop positively over the next few years. Nyetimber is noted as one of the pioneering English sparkling wine producers, established in 1988.
17 Jancis Robinson
73% Pinot Noir, 27% Chardonnay grown on greensand in West Sussex. Disgorged July 2023. Dosage 9.8 g/l. TA 7.5 g/l, pH 3.13. This is the 5th vintage of this wine.

Intense but not overwhelming toasty/bready autolytic character with underlying ripe ctirus, mostly lemon but also a hint of honeyed apricot. On the palate, this is a masterly contrast between richness/depth/roundness and high acidity. It`s still extremely youthful despite all this time on the lees. Deeply satisfying and deeply celebratory with a focus on lively energy. The underlying intensity of fruit and the balance suggests this is going to age well and could even have sat longer on the lees but it is à point now. Not bone dry but the balancing dosage is well judged and needed for harmony. (JH)

Nyetimber

World Class Sparkling Wine

Having planted its first vines in West Sussex in 1988, Nyetimber was one of the forerunners of the fine English sparkling wine boom, producing traditional method sparkling wines from estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes.

Based in the village of West Chiltington in a lea of the South Downs, Nyetimber owns vineyards in West Sussex, Hampshire and Kent, where the geology and soils – principally the same chalk seam which runs under Champagne, along with greensand – are particularly suited to producing world-class sparkling wines.

Head winemaker Cherie Spriggs and her winemaker husband Brad Greatrix work with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards to ensure optimum fruit quality, while in the cellar, extended ageing and the benefit of an extensive collection of reserve wines ensures that each bottle leaving the winery displays a complexity and finesse which makes Nyetimber a benchmark producer of English sparkling wine.
