Nuits-St-Georges Les Pruliers Henri Gouges 1995 is a Premier Cru from the Nuits-Saint-Georges region, where Domaine Henri Gouges has been producing wines since 1920. The estate controls 1.88 hectares in the Les Pruliers vineyard, known for its well-drained, stony soils that promote concentrated fruit expression. The 1995 vintage features a deep garnet hue and aromas of earthy cherry, dried herbs and faint tobacco notes. The palate is concentrated with firm tannins and a structured profile, offering potential for further ageing.

Dark ruby-colored, the Nuits-St.-Georges Les Pruliers offers red currants and blackberries on the nose and a mouthful of rich, concentrated, medium-bodied, delineated but chewy dark fruits and raspberries, ripe, round tannins, and a long, complex finish. Drink between 2002-2009. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The Ratings with a score in parentheses indicate the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided.

The 1995s are the finest wines from this estate I have tasted, and I hope the progress continues.

Good medium red. Brighter, more expressive aromas of redcurrant, licorice, minerals and Cuban tobacco; this will go in the direction of torrefaction: coffee, cocoa. Denser and more concentrated; more complex and sensual than the Clos des Porrets. Has more extract to buffer the tannins. Offers considerable potential.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1998
