Mugneret Gibourg Nuits-St-Georges Les Chaignots 2010 is a medium- to full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Chaignots in the Nuits-St-Georges commune of the Côte de Nuits. The domaine of Mugneret-Gibourg was formed in 2009 from the amalgamation of the domaines of Mugneret-Gibourg and Dr Georges Mugneret. The domaine is now diligently managed by the daughters of Dr Georges Mugneret, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée Mugneret. Hand harvesting in the vineyards combined with rigorous grape selection ensures the highest possible quality fruit goes into the domaine`s wines. For the Pinot Noirs, fruit is mostly destemmed with levels of new oak kept at a moderate level. "The sappiness from low yields that is so much in evidence in the best wines of 2010 certainly defines the Mugnerets’ Chaignots in this vintage, as the wine offers up a stunning nose of black cherries, a touch of blood orange, plums, dark chocolate, a wonderfully complex soil signature, violets and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure and tangy, with a great core of fruit, ripe tannins, impeccable focus and balance and a very, very long and laser-like finish. Young Nuits St. Georges simply does not get any more elegant than this wonderful 2010 Mugneret Chaignots." John Gilman, 2011

Vinous
Bright, deep red. Redcurrant, spices and smoky oak on the rather subdued nose. In a distinctly sunnier style than the village Vosne, with strong soil tones to the musky spice and red fruit flavors. Finishes smoky, saline, tactile and long, with substantial dusty tannins. I don't find quite the eclat of the Vosne villages; despite this wine's firm finish, I'd be tempted to drink it first.
