Domaine Prieuré-Roch Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes 2013 is an old-vine Pinot Noir from the Nuits-Saint-Georges commune. Made using whole-cluster fermentation and biodynamic farming practices, this 2013 bottling features a profile of pomegranate, rose petal and earthy spice with a distinct stems-driven aromatic lift. The wine possesses a high level of natural acidity and a light to medium body that reflects the cooler ripening period of its harvest year. It was bottled without filtration or added sulphur and shows a high degree of energy and transparency.

Prieure Roch

A Burgundian Titan

Founded in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, whose family are part-owners of the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Prieure Roch produce wine from vineyard parcels in communes as diverse as Ladoix, Chambertin, Vosne Romanée and Savigny Les Beune. Farming of the vineyards is done to organic standards, veering towards full biodynamics in some instances and cellar techniques are strictly traditional - vinified in large wooden vats, manual punching down and without the use of sulphur.

Wines are kept in barrel for 12-24 months before bottling, although some experiments with extended ageing have taken place - most notably in 2002. These are elegant wines with the ripeness and poise that one would expect from a family that also produce arguable some of the world's great Pinot Noir.
