Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Vieilles Vignes 2005 from Domaine Prieuré-Roch is a Premier Cru red Burgundy from the Côte de Nuits. This wine is a product of Prieuré-Roch`s extreme traditionalism, defined by whole-cluster fermentation, long ageing and no added sulphur, resulting in highly expressive, savoury wines. This wine displays a complex fragrant profile, offering concentrated aromas of dark cherry, liquorice, dried flowers and forest floor. The palate is dense and textural, showcasing structural depth and a long, savoury finish.

Prieure Roch

A Burgundian Titan

Founded in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, whose family are part-owners of the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Prieure Roch produce wine from vineyard parcels in communes as diverse as Ladoix, Chambertin, Vosne Romanée and Savigny Les Beune. Farming of the vineyards is done to organic standards, veering towards full biodynamics in some instances and cellar techniques are strictly traditional - vinified in large wooden vats, manual punching down and without the use of sulphur.

Wines are kept in barrel for 12-24 months before bottling, although some experiments with extended ageing have taken place - most notably in 2002. These are elegant wines with the ripeness and poise that one would expect from a family that also produce arguable some of the world's great Pinot Noir.
