Nicolas-Jay Estate, a distinguished producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Oregon`s Willamette Valley, was born out of a three-decade friendship between music entrepreneur Jay Boberg and Burgundy winemaker Jean-Nicolas Méo of Domaine Méo-Camuzet. The 2021 Bishop Creek Pinot Noir stands out as truly spectacular, originating from this exceptional, ungrafted old-vine site in the northwest corner of the Yamhill-Carlton district. The wine unfolds with notes of anise, pencil lead, and a gamey quality, showcasing its dark hue as it gracefully swirls in the glass. Upon further aeration, enticing aromas of roasted plum, cassis, and a forest floor freshness emerge, complemented by hints of candied fennel and balsamic undertones.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Bishop Creek Vineyard is dark and brooding, with a smoldering blend of crushed black cherries, dusty earth, savory herbs and cloves. Silky textures are energized by zesty acidity. Masses of tart wild berries cascade across the palate, depositing saline minerals and silky tannins that mount toward the close. Despite its youthful structure, it finishes unexpectedly fresh and lifted with a crunchy sensation as hints of sour citrus linger.Eric Guido18th January 2024
