Napanook 2012, crafted from the renowned Napanook vineyard in Yountville, California, is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The estate, established in 1983 by Christian Moueix, has an estimable history, with its vineyard previously supplying grapes for prestigious Napa wines in mid-20th century. This vintage presents a deep colour and an aromatic profile dominated by red and black fruits, accompanied by herbal nuances. The palate reveals concentrated fruit flavours paired with supple tannins, leading to a complex finish with subtle hints of spice and anise. A structured wine designed for longevity.

The 2012 Napanook is a big, intense wine, especially if given some time in the decanter. Rich red cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and spice meld together in an effortless, gracious Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannins are silky and polished, which gives the 2012 much of its early appeal, but there is so much density and pure concentration that a few years in bottle will only do it good. The 2012 is a fabulous Napanook. Frankly, the 2012 is as good or better than the top wines at many estates. Napanook remains one of the great values in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.Antonio Galloni1st October 2015

Dominus Estate

A First Growth in Napa

Along with Opus One, Dominus is one of the greatest examples of applying the Bordelais approach to winemaking to the great vineyards of the Napa Valley. Grapes are sourced from Yountville, specifically the historic Napanook vineyard, from which the winery's second wine takes its name.

The 'Grand Vin' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - a classic Bordeaux blend. After vinification, around 30% of the wine is loaded into new oak barrels for 15 months before bottling. Initial releases of Dominus met with mixed reviews, but since the late 1990s, the winery has established itself as one of the greatest in America.
