Musigny Mugnier 2010 is a Grand Cru red wine from the Musigny vineyard in Burgundy, crafted by winemaker Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier. This vintage emerged from a year marked by cool temperatures, promoting a longer growing season that contributed to the wine`s complex character. This wine exhibits an intricate profile with layers of red fruits, floral notes and subtle earthiness. The vineyard, renowned for its shallow, stony soils, imparts complexity and finesse.

The 2010 Musigny is breathtaking. It is at once weightless yet full of flavor and dynamism. There is marvelous tension and sheer energy in the fruit, while certain elements of virility – especially in the tannin – seem to develop as the wine sits in the glass. Like all of the Mugnier wines, the Musigny is really a wine built on textural finesse and a certain elusiveness that asks more of the taster than it offers. It represents the height of sensuality and unknowable beauty in Burgundy. In many ways Mugnier’s Musigny resembles Domaine de la Romanee-Conti’s Romanee-Conti. No matter how much time I spend with the wine there is always more to discover. Anticipated maturity. 2025-2045. - Antonio Galloni

Another difficult vintage that produced a brilliant wine. This Musigny has developed a spicy nose with hints of tobacco. Very round but not overripe. Somehow this seems both bitter and sweet at the same time, yin and yang, with red and black fruit. Seems to combine the virtues of ripe and cool vintages. Jay McInerney1st February 2025

Precision and Beauty

Located the famous Château de Chambolle-Musigny, which has been owned by the Mugniers since the mid 19th century, Frédéric Mugnier took the hem at the family winery in 1985. Frédéric farms around 35 acres of vines, including plantings in some of Burgundy's most desirable crus, most notably the famous Les Amoureuses Premier Cru and Musigny Grand Cru. A notable recent addition to the portfolio is Clos de la Maréchale in Nuits-St-George, returned to the family stable after a 54 lease to Domaine Faiveley.

The winemaking is methodical and reasoned, reflecting Frédéric's training as an engineer - all fruit is destemmed before crushing, new oak is limited to 25% and all wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bucking the trend somewhat, Frédéric has decided not to pursue organic or biodynamic certification. While pesticide and herbicide-free since the mid-1990s, the domaine take a pragmatic approach to vineyard management rather than a dogmatic one.
